BAND OF BIKERS
POWERHOUSE
It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of things like FOUND Magazine. As such, after reading the background on this book, I got excited. What we have here is a borderline gay/erotic photo essay using found photographs from a few different related biker meet-ups. What’s most fascinating about the compiled images is the stories they tell about their subjects. It’s an amazing experience as a viewer to be given such a limited amount of information about a person or group of people and then concoct personality characteristics, backgrounds, etc. for yourself. Discarded snippets of “just plain folks’” lives add some type of mystery to what is potentially an uninteresting gray area. Let’s not forget that the experience is only heightened by another amazing job by Powerhouse in composition. The photographs found here are beautifully rendered from the old Polaroids and set one-by-one on pages with a vaguely nostalgic photo album background. It’s a thin volume, but reward yourself by taking your time with it. If you’re anything like me, you’ll get completely absorbed in crafting stories and noticing new details that it shouldn’t be a problem.
