THE GHOST SHIP
KC GREEN
It’ll be hard to review this indie comic in more words than appear within its pages, so I’ll keep this brief. I met KC Green at the Emerald City Comic Con after having caught my eye with a table of what appeared to be some of the most legit indie comics/zines in front of him. That’s truly what you get here, a very Quimby’s standard-issue $4 comic printed in black and white on 8 1/8” x 11” white paper. Contained within is the story of a dude going to his parents’ place for the weekend… the catch is that they died at sea. Between his extremely difficult-to-connect-with father and mother who can’t exactly remember how to cook (if she ever did at all, in the first place), this homecoming is bitter-sweet. Though the comic is under 30-pages, there’s usually a flashback-within-a-flashback effect that’s really nice for the purpose of this short narrative. Its ambiguous ending leaves the reader intrigued and kinda emo-ed out, a la Thompson’s Blankets. This is not a bad thing. Anyway, check this one out, if you can. I have copy 20/20, so hopefully Green can run some more off for you guys. Otherwise, just check the link above for his work available as webcomics.
